The KICS, Korea Information and Communications Society, is the professional institute for Korea's diverse group of communications technology specialists dedicated to foster the advancement of communication science and industry. It was founded on 19 October 1974 and incorporated as a nonprofit organization.
Objective
While guiding Korea as a key player in the world's increasingly dynamic and evolving communications industry, KICS is dedicated to contribute to the advancement of communication technology by:
promoting the advancements in theory, engineering, and application in the field of communication sciences,
promoting the communications business and industry,
fostering international collaborations and information exchanges,
providing a forum for mutual relationships among the members.
Profile
Today KICS has become the largest professional institute in Korea in the field of communication sciences, the area of which encompass not only every field of communication technology but also the law and policy, management and standardization, and even the sociological aspect of communication and information age. The Institute has expanded remarkably over the last 3 decades.
International Collaboration
KICS is now actively fostering international partnerships by networking with foreign organizations. Mutual cooperation Agreement between KICS and the Chinese Institute of Communications(CIC) has been active since August 1993. In November 1995, KICS signed the Sister Relation Agreement with IEEE ComSoc. A similar relationship is being established with IEICE of Japan.
In seeking fruitful information exchanges among international engineers and researchers, the KICS publishes journals in English as well aw in Korean, and holds conferences and symposiums together with societies from various countries in the world. The Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC), first organized in Aug. 1993 by KICS under the sponsorship of Asia-Pacific Regional Communication Society, has become the annual international conference on communications in the Asia-Pacific region.
