Purpose of Establishment

The purpose of KICS is to contribute to the country' development and promotion of international cooperation by establishing the comprehensive scientific theoretical system through scientific and related field research.

History
1974. 5. 11 Organized promotion committee to establish the Institute by Cho Jung-hyun and 12 other members.
1974. 6. 1 Held a meeting of promoters (Cho Jung-hyun and 17 other members) and prepared articles of association(draft) and business plan(draft).
1974. 10. 19 Held the inaugural meeting and established two committees and four sub committees.
1975. 2. 7 Got the charter of a corporation aggregate from competent authorities(the Ministry of Communication).
1975. 3. 13 Filed a registration of incorporation as Korean Institute of Communication sciences, Corporate Aggregate.
1976. 9. 1 Published the first issue of the Journal of Korean Institute of Communication sciences.
1979. 2. 5 Joined the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies as an Institute of combined science field.
1983. 4. 2 Established 14 sub committees under research and investigation committee.
1984. 12. 31 Published the first issue of Journal of Information and Communication.
1985. 4. 16 Reorganized research and investigation committee by reducing the number of sub committees into ten.
1985. 10. 8 Moved the Institute office to Hyunjin building, Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu
1985. 10. 28 Changed the name of research and investigation committee into science committee and established 15 sub committees.
1986. 5. 3 Established Pusan-Kyungnam district branch.
1986. 6. 21 Established Taegu-Kyungbuk district branch.
1986. 11. 25 Established Honam district branch.
1988. 4. 9 Divided Honam district branch into Kwangjoo-Chunnam district branch and Chunbuk district branch.
1989. 11. 17 Established Chungbuk district branch.
1989. 11. 22 Established Kangwon district branch.
1990 Received the work of executing science organizations support business from communication development and research center.
1990. 7. 27 Established Cheju district branch.
1991. 11. 6 Established Taejon-Chungnam district branch.
1993. 8. 23 Made a Sister Society agreement with CIC of China.
1995. 11. 4 Made a Sister Society agreement with IEEE ComSoc.
1999. 3. 25 Published the first edition of international journal "Journal of Communications and Networks (JCN)".
1999. 12. 22 Made a Sister Society agreement with IEICE-CS of Japan.
2000. 8 JCN has been indexed in SCI-E (Science Citation Index Expanded)
2003. 9 Made a Cooperation Agreement with CIC of China.
2003. 12 Made a Publication Side Agreement with IEEE ComSoc.
2004. 11. 24 JCN has been indexed in SCI (Science Citation Index)
2006. 3. 22 Made a Cooperation Agreement with KABS of Korea.
2006. 8 Established the Beijing, China Branch
2006. 11. 30 Made a Sister Society agreement renewal with IEEE ComSoc.
2007. 2 Made a Cooperation Agreement with IEEE
2007. 2 KICS changed its name from Korea Institute of Communication Sciences to Korea Information and Communications Society
2007. 6 Made a Sister Society agreement renewal with IEICE-CS of Japan
2007. 8 Held the 1st KICS International Workshop on Information and Communication in Yun-Gil, Beijing
2007. 9 Made a Sister Society agreement renewal with CIC of China
2008. 2. 1 Established the San Diego, America Branch
2009. 2. 13 Held the 1st Anniversary America Branch (San Diego) Workshop
2009. 2. 17 Made a Cooperation Agreement with KABS and KATP of Korea
2009. 6. JCN has been approved to be included in IEEE Xplore
2009. 10. Made a Sister Society agreement renewal with CIC of China
2009. 12. Made a Sister Society agreement renewal with IEICE-CS of Japan
2010. 11. 17-19 Held the 1st International Conference on ICT Convergence (ICTC 2010)
